  • Beneficial Electrification & Rebates

Beneficial electrification refers to the process of replacing traditional fossil fuel-powered systems with electric alternatives in ways that are both environmentally and economically beneficial. This approach focuses on using electricity, especially from renewable sources, to power various sectors. Examples include switching from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric vehicles, replacing natural gas heating with electric heat pumps, and replacing gas-engine powered tools like leaf blowers or weed whackers with electric versions. SMPA makes this transition more feasible with their rebate opportunities.

  • Timing Matters

SMPA’S Time-of-Use (TOU) rate offers members a discount on energy for 19 hours of the day, 11 cents/kWh (previously 13.5 cents/ kWh). During the 5 hour “peak” period of 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., members see a higher rate (22 cents/ kWh). With minimal impact on the overall cost for most members, Time-of-Use creates incentives for members to use energy during lower-demand periods and it better reflects the actual cost of energy throughout the day.

  • Totally Green

Totally Green is a simple way to ensure your electricity comes from 100% renewable sources, with a 1¢ per kilowatt-hour fee that tracks usage and supports renewable energy credits. By signing up, SMPA members can affordably contribute to local renewable energy development, with all proceeds going into the SMPA Green Fund to support initiatives like Solar PV rebates.
